Why This Workflow Works for TCGplayer Sellers

Selling trading cards on TCGplayer means shipping a lot of small, high-value items. Speed matters, but so does protecting the cards. This guide walks you through a reliable system using 4.25 x 6.25 inch brown kraft envelopes and 4x6 printed shipping labels created with My Shipping Label.

What You Need

  • [Kraft 4x6 envelopes (4.25 x 6.25 inch, self-seal)](https://amzn.to/4uc5YQL) - these are the perfect size for top-loaders and team bags
  • [4x6 direct thermal shipping labels](https://amzn.to/4lfHHVQ) - or adhesive label sheets if you use an inkjet printer
  • Penny sleeves and top-loaders (for card protection)
  • A small piece of painter's tape or a team bag to secure the top-loader
  • Optional: a thin piece of cardboard for extra rigidity
  • Step 1: Protect the Card

Never ship a raw card in just an envelope. Cards can bend, crease, or get damaged in transit.

  • Slide the card into a penny sleeve (the thin, clear plastic sleeve)
  • Place the sleeved card into a top-loader (the rigid plastic holder)
  • Seal the top of the top-loader with a small piece of painter's tape or slide it into a team bag. This prevents the card from slipping out during transit
  • Pro tip: Use painter's tape (blue tape) instead of scotch tape. It peels off cleanly without leaving residue or damaging the top-loader. Your buyer will appreciate it.

    Step 2: Prepare the Envelope

Take a 4.25 x 6.25 inch kraft envelope. These are the ideal size because:

  • They fit a top-loader with just enough room and no excess space
  • The snug fit prevents the card from sliding around
  • They're thick enough (120+ GSM) to add a layer of protection
  • Self-seal closure means no licking or glue strips
  • Optional extra protection: Cut a small piece of cardboard (like from a cereal box) to the size of the envelope. Place it behind the top-loader inside the envelope for extra rigidity. This is especially worth doing for cards over $10 in value.

    Step 3: Pack the Envelope

  • Slide the sealed top-loader into the kraft envelope, face side toward the front of the envelope
  • If using a cardboard backer, place it behind the top-loader
  • Make sure the top-loader sits flat and doesn't bunch or bend the envelope
  • Peel the self-seal strip and press firmly to close
  • The card should fit snugly without moving around. Give the sealed envelope a gentle shake to confirm nothing shifts.

    Step 4: Print Your Label

  • Go to My Shipping Label and log in (or create a free account)
  • Enter your return address (this saves for future orders)
  • Copy the buyer's shipping address from your TCGplayer order
  • Add a thank-you message like "Thanks for your order! Happy collecting."
  • Click Print Label and apply the label to the front of the envelope
  • If you're using a thermal printer, load a 4x6 thermal label and print directly. If you're using an inkjet, print on adhesive label paper and peel-and-stick.

    Step 5: Ship It

Drop the labeled envelope at your mailbox or post office. For standard TCGplayer orders under $20, USPS First Class Mail with tracking is the standard. The envelope is lightweight enough to stay under 1 oz in most cases.

    Quick Reference: Packing Checklist

  • Why Printed Labels Matter for TCGplayer

Handwritten labels work, but printed labels:

  • Look professional and build trust with repeat buyers
  • Are always legible so packages don't get lost in transit
  • Include your branding with a logo and thank-you message
  • Save time when you're shipping 10, 20, or 50 orders a day
  • TCGplayer buyers rate sellers on shipping speed and packaging quality. A clean, printed label signals that you take your business seriously.
